These are the Forum Guidelines

The real-time nature of this forum makes it impossible for Colonies.com to review messages or confirm the validity of information posted inside them. We do not necessarily actively monitor the contents of these forums for accuracy, sanity, or decency. (pretty much all we're trying to say is that we aren't responsible for the stuff that other people post in here, we do try to moderate it to the best of our ability, but sometimes stuff slips by our radar).

Remember that you do not have free speech, I know that sounds terrible, but these forums are property of Colonies.com Network Inc, and we reserve the right to lock/delete topics that are racist, sexist, obscene, bigoted, or just plain topics we don't like. We try to be as fair as possible, but in the end, it's our judgement to moderate these forums.

Main Rules:
These are the important ones, ignore them and you'll probably be removed.

1. No Personal Attacks
This one should be pretty self-explanatory, attack the idea, not the person. If someone posts a rediculous claim, don't just call them a douchebag and expect that to work as your rebuttal. Repeated personal attacks will result in bans or deleted accounts. This is also known as an ad hominem attack.
2. No Trolling
A troll is a post meant to get a reaction out of people, with little or no substance. Generally a troll will post thoughts that only try and get a large, angry reaction out of people. Substance alone will not prevent you from being a troll.

3. No Pornography/Illegal/Obscene Content

This one should be simple. No porn, no pictures of mangled bodies/insides/etc. This will get you banned and deleted real quick. Keep it tasteful please.

4. No Commercial Advertisements (except in the Links forum)

This is the "No Spam" rule. Don't come in and post links to your product/webpage/movie/awesome idea and expect to get away with it. We've seen a million members come in with a postcount in the single digits try to hock their wares, so don't think you are any better at it, or exempt from it being moved to the Links forum.

5. Privacy
Don't post phone numbers, email addresses, addresses, etc of a member without their express permission (even then it's not a great idea to put stuff like that on a public internet forum).
Suggestions
Those were the rules, now here are the suggestions. Following these suggestions will quickly help you fit in and get along with the majority of the forum members.

1. Informative/desciptive topic subjects- use common sense and try to get across the meaning of the topic in just the subject. This will save a member from having to go into (if they even do at all) the topic just to see what you are posting about.

2. Post it in the right forum! - There are many forums here, please take the time to read the decriptions and subjects of all the different forums. With any luck you'll realize right away where your topic should belong.

3. Respect rich content - Currently we are allowing HTML for everyone, please don't abuse this priviledge, or we'll be forced to take it away. Feel free to post YouTube videos and the like, just don't make a habit of only posting a video with no content.

4. Scan the first page or two for duplicate topics - until the search is up and running, we can't tell people to search on a topic before they post it, but please be considerate and at least take a look and see if your question has been asked lately. Generally a lot of questions have already been asked and answered, so it'll make everyone happy to not see a topic repeated over and over again.

5. Have fun, and don't take the internet too seriously!
